What book to read next?

I'm trying to decide which book to get to read next.

I just finished Pursuit of Honor(Mitch Rapp, No. 10) by Vince Flynn, which I really enjoyed.  Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Daniel Silva, and Andrew Klavan are prolific authors who are writing modern, relevant and very engrossing spy and political thrillers that are far beyond anything in the Bourne series and it amazes me that none of them are movies yet.

I also am just finishing up Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton, which was also great if you like his other works.

So, along with starting another Vince Flynn or Brad Thor book, I would like to start a new non-fiction book as well since I usually like to have two books going most of the time.  One being fiction and the other non-fiction.

Click below for the list:

Here are my options in no particular order:

Son of Hamas: A Gripping Account of Terror, Betrayal, Political Intrigue, and Unthinkable Choices
   - I saw an interview with this author.  His father was in the terrorist group Hamas, seing how evil it was, the author decided to become an agent for the US.

Super Freakonomics
   - It's always good to learn more about economics so you can see when our political leaders are feeding us BS.

WAR
    - By Sebastion Junger, the same guy who coined the phrase "Perfect Storm" in his book by the same title.  This is about the Af-Pak war from when he was embedded with the troops.  Not political, just human.

The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers
    -  Basically an outline of how all the great powers in human history were created and destroyed.  Reminds me of the phrase "Those who do not know History, are doomed to repeat it".

and finally:
In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto
    -  The author has a few books about food and our relationship with it.  This seems to be an outline of how we should be eating.

So there are my options.  I think Im going to actually go to the book store and look at them this time so it might depend on which ones are available when Im there.

Also, still wondering what all the fuss is about the Kindle.  Amazon keeps discounting them.  Im not sure if that means they are selling a lot or not selling a lot of them.  But they sure seem to be advertising about them all the time lately.  They even have new colors and ones that have Wi-Fi ( kindle dx ).

Here is the link to check out all the Kindle stuff at Amazon and see for yourself.  If someone has one, I would love to hear if they like it or not or pros and cons vs. real books:

  1. It's funny because Vince Flynn is just like the mindless hollywood blockbuster, except for literature, not cinema. It's the same tripe that manages to sell millions to the type of people who watch Fox News.

What I'm saying is, what you're doing is like the kids who complain about Justin Bieber sucking when they listen to Slipknot and Linkin Park.

  2. Well then you will really like that they are moving forward, although slowly, with a Vince Flynn movie now.

And because Hollywood doesn't include the real threats to freedom in the world in the movies you jump on a news channel? You might want to deal with the hate in your life, its not good for you.

Thanks for reading and posting though.

  3. "real threats to freedom"
Are you screwing with me? They're just playing off the public's fear because that's what sells.
That's what the comparison to Fox News is, they use fearmongering tactics to scare their viewers, usually including 'danger' to their kids.

If you actually believe that those are real threats to the country and those novels are in any way realistic, you really need to get out more.

Which book is the movie based on? I'm surprised it took so long to actually make a movie, it seems like Flynn takes tons of influence from Hollywood thrillers, most of his books would fit well on the silver screen.

  4. Not sure which book exactly without looking it up again, but who knows if they will follow just one book or include plots from a few.

    Thanks again for reading.

  5. I absolutely loved the book Son of Hamas. This book is what I would call a "stretching book" - it will stretch your political ideas, religious ideas, cultural perceptions of Palestinian and Israeli culture, as well as your ideas about what it is to be fully human.
