Another Step Forward for the Memphis Greenline!

They are starting the work on the bridge spanning the Wolf River into the park.
And it looks like, as I pass the greenline at various points, that they have the rail bed smoothed out and ready for pavement.

HBO and Showtime TV series' and Easter DVD Sale

Ive never had HBO or Showtime and still don't, but I always heard about how good The Sopranos was and recently True Blood.  So after getting netflix as a birthday present a little over a year ago I started renting HBO's TV series'.

I started with Rome.  Im a big fan of history anyway and this show really delves into the daily activities of a couple military men as well as Caesar and a few of the Senators of the time.  The production value was more than I expected from a TV show, but I guess I should have known since I had already seen Band of Brothers  and it is one of my favorites.

The next series I rented was The Tudors and it again was a very high quality production.  Whether it was completely historically accurate, I don't know, but I think it does give a good sense of the time period.  At least the royals of the time.

Now I am watching True Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series).  With the rash of vampire shows and movies lately I just wrote this off as another in the line initially.  But it again has very good production value and story development.  Most of the acting is pretty good, but there is one girl that has the worst southern accent ever.  It seems like they could have found someone with an authentic southern accent, but I think this is a case of typical Hollywood thinking or trying to make all southerners seem stupid.  I'm trying to ignore that though.  I'm only half-way through the first season currently and it is getting very good.  When I get to the end of a True Blood disc, more than the others, I am actually mad that I have to wait until the next DVD arrives in the mail.  I think it would definitely be worth buying to watch multiple times.

So here is my list of top HBO and Showtime TV series':

1.  Band of Brothers
      Band of Brothers
2.  True Blood
True Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series)
3.  The Pacific - This might move up, but I haven't seen the whole season yet.
       The Pacific
4.  East Bound and Down - Very funny, about a washed up MLB pitcher who goes back to his home town but thinks he is better then everyone.
Eastbound & Down: The Complete First Season
5.  Tudors
The Tudors - The Complete First Season
6.  John Adams - This one is a little slower, but if you like History it is good.
       John Adams (HBO Miniseries)
7.  Flight of the Concords
Flight of the Conchords: The Complete First Season

Right now until April 5th, many DVD's are marked down even further for an Easter/Spring sale at Amazon here.

Lures; Not Just for Fishing Anymore

Fishing Lures being used as decoration, nothing new, but with the resurgence of Classic Americana and vintage pieces incorporated into many design plans Lures are getting another look from people who normally don't fish.
These pictures of lures are some especially good ones I found that could easily be printed out and put into some nice frames.

I also found some pretty good pieces at Amazon that are fairly inexpensive.

Harry Brown - Official Trailer

This.  looks.  great.
Im so tired of "wuss" lead characters in movies. Finally a movie where the hero actually shoots the bad guy! Not to mention Michael Caine is one of the best actors there is.

Brings to mind the saying "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away"

For some reason they disabled embedding, but you can see the trailer by following the link below:

Another good review/discussions of the movie can be found here.

Skiing in St Louis

In an effort to lend the blog's name some credibility, here are some pics of our trip skiing in the great white north of St Louis.

I know what you're thinking, "That has got to be the steepest slope in all of Missouri", yeah it pretty much was! Little kids aren't even allowed out there it's so dangerous.  I think that's what you call a "First Descent", we probably should have had oxygen.

The Skull Collection

Amazon has some good stuff under "Skulls" too:

Knights Templar Human Skull Silver Finish Statue Figure

Celtic Knotwork Human Skull Statue Figure Bone Finish

Flaming Human Skull Statue Silver Finish Fire HOT!

Aztec Fractured Skull Statue

I like skulls, I don't know why.  Maybe it's because Halloween is my favorite holiday?  Anybody else likes skulls this much?

Military Field Jackets

Just saw The Proposal (Single Disc Widescreen) its ok to laugh, I did too, but it turned out to be a pretty funny movie.  Thats not the point.  The point is that Ryan Reynold's character wore a military style jacket when the movie scenes move to Alaska and it looked like something I would wear.  Did a little searching and it turns out there are a lot of styles of this jacket including the MILITARY M-65 FIELD JACKET he wore.  Im hoping it will me marked down this spring.  Either way Im going to get one.

And here is the one Im getting (below), it seems to be the least expensive one.  If you like it too you can help me out and order it through this link at no extra cost to you!  Sweet, I'm getting one.
