HBO and Showtime TV series' and Easter DVD Sale

Ive never had HBO or Showtime and still don't, but I always heard about how good The Sopranos was and recently True Blood.  So after getting netflix as a birthday present a little over a year ago I started renting HBO's TV series'.

I started with Rome.  Im a big fan of history anyway and this show really delves into the daily activities of a couple military men as well as Caesar and a few of the Senators of the time.  The production value was more than I expected from a TV show, but I guess I should have known since I had already seen Band of Brothers  and it is one of my favorites.

The next series I rented was The Tudors and it again was a very high quality production.  Whether it was completely historically accurate, I don't know, but I think it does give a good sense of the time period.  At least the royals of the time.

Now I am watching True Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series).  With the rash of vampire shows and movies lately I just wrote this off as another in the line initially.  But it again has very good production value and story development.  Most of the acting is pretty good, but there is one girl that has the worst southern accent ever.  It seems like they could have found someone with an authentic southern accent, but I think this is a case of typical Hollywood thinking or trying to make all southerners seem stupid.  I'm trying to ignore that though.  I'm only half-way through the first season currently and it is getting very good.  When I get to the end of a True Blood disc, more than the others, I am actually mad that I have to wait until the next DVD arrives in the mail.  I think it would definitely be worth buying to watch multiple times.

So here is my list of top HBO and Showtime TV series':

1.  Band of Brothers
      Band of Brothers
2.  True Blood
True Blood: The Complete First Season (HBO Series)
3.  The Pacific - This might move up, but I haven't seen the whole season yet.
       The Pacific
4.  East Bound and Down - Very funny, about a washed up MLB pitcher who goes back to his home town but thinks he is better then everyone.
Eastbound & Down: The Complete First Season
5.  Tudors
The Tudors - The Complete First Season
6.  John Adams - This one is a little slower, but if you like History it is good.

Flight of the Conchords: The Complete First Season

Right now until April 5th, many DVD's are marked down even further for an Easter/Spring sale at Amazon here.
